A photo ID driver’s licence in English, International Drivers Permit or Passport must be shown before we can hire to you.

Do you require a bond?

No but we do require the details of a valid credit card (Visa or MasterCard) to be held until the bike is returned.

How is it different to riding a normal bike?

Riding an electric bicycle is just like riding any other bicycle – you need to pedal and you have a range of gears to use. However, at any point you can choose to utilise the electric power. With the Magnum bikes you can select one of six ‘battery assist’ settings.  Each of these gives a different level of ‘boost’ to help you ride up the hills with relative ease and no sweat.  Be warned – it is a very addictive feeling!

Where can I ride with my e bike?

Whilst good quality e-bikes are very robust, most are not designed to be used as mountain bikes and you shouldn’t go on off-road, rocky tracks or through water. However, we have carefully selected the tyres so that they can be used on the Opua Rail Trail.

We have researched some interesting routes for you to explore the area in a series of suggested half-day/day rides. We can provide you with maps at the time of hire.

You cannot use our bikes in the Waitangi Forest Bike Park as they are not intended for this type of terrain.

How long does the battery last?

There are a lot of variables. It will very much depend on what setting you select, how much pedalling you do, how much climbing you do, your weight etc.  The range for most single e bike batteries is between 40 – 90 kms.

What happens if the battery starts getting low?

Again it will depend on your circumstances.  If you are close to your return then you might just choose to pedal back under your own power or use very low battery assist.

Otherwise we can come and pick you up or give you a replacement battery to get you home.

What happens if I break down?

If you have a puncture, or your bike breaks down you will need to call our emergency phone number (021 027 73446) to arrange to be picked up and either returned to your hire point, or provided with a replacement bicycle

Do I need to wear a helmet whilst riding my e bike?

Yes, under New Zealand law you must wear a helmet at all times when riding your e bike. We provide you with the helmet. We also provide hi viz vests.  These are not compulsory but highly recommended.
